On a National Level:
As of late May 2025, mortgage rates have stabilized, holding steady throughout the month after modest increases earlier in the spring. The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is currently hovering just around 7.000%. This relative stability comes amid a complex economic backdrop, with lenders closely watching inflation trends and central bank signals.
Locally:
We have seen more supply of homes trickling onto the market. We have also seen an increase in activity in both new mortgage applications for purchases and cashout refinances. Rate and term refinances have been minimal as borrowers are patiently awaiting lower rates. We are encouraged to see a strong increase in preapprovals which should result in new purchase activity over the near term.
